I, Voyeur

I, Voyeur captures the daily experiences of humanity that often escape our conscious perception, yet inform the texture of our experience. These works invite you to break from the continuous motion of your life and pause; to let your gaze linger where it is often socially required that it be averted. You are being asked to become a voyeur.

When this body of work was made, I was living in Los Angeles. I would spend 2-4 hours each day riding the metro, where I would take hundreds of covert photographs of intriguing characters and social exchanges. I transposed some of the most interesting images into paintings. In this process, I, myself, began to absorb details of the experience that had escaped my attention.

I, Voyeur speaks to the unique moment when estranged individuals briefly gather together for a shared experience of time and space. These paintings depict fragments of stories occurring in transit, much as life.
