Prism Window Hanging

My mother had go antiquing recently and found these small crystals that had once been apart of a light fixture. I had asked her to keep an eye out for prisms and this was a jackpot with about 10 individual crystals drilled to hang. So I gathered up the tools to create a beaded sun catcher.

From Hobby Lobby I had purchased a giant bucket of beads with color themes. By my daughter’s request I selected the blue collection and felt that a three teared bead chain would give enough space to each crystal to really showcase the beauty and catch the light without getting too crowded

Starting with 24” of fishing line I strung the beads without placing the crystals on, waiting until the end product to decide how to place the large pieces. The second tear I added another 12” of fishing line to ensure there would be enough space to let the beads breathe.

It took all my self control to truly let the beads go on randomly. I find that I get a little to hyper-fixated on the order of beads if I let myself.

I will say that one consideration that I wish I had made was the tendency of the small beads to fall to the bottom of a bowl, as I ended up with a meager assortment of large beads in the final strand.

Last strand I added another 12” to drop it down even further. The final product turned out just lovely and creates rainbows all over my little girls room. It ended up only having space for half of the large crystals, but this is going to work out well as I plan to create a second one for the other window.
